Micah's Birthday

Micah turned 4 on Monday. His biggest recent changes have been: he tells me every day he does not like kisses on the lips anymore, so he'll only blow me a kiss, unless I beg him for a cheek kiss. Then last Saturday we were waiting together on the porch for a friend of his, and when they pulled into the driveway he turned to me and said, "Mom, you can go inside now." So independent.
If Ash and I look tired in this photo, it's because Micah usually finds his way to our bed in the middle of the night, ever so quietly, and I don't realize it until 5:30 am when I wake up with a foot in my face. When I do realize it, me and my belly usually end up on the living room couch, and he follows me out there after a while. I think we just need to lock our door.
Aside from when his friends are over, he is going through a real mommy phase, which I'm enjoying because I'm sure it will be over soon. We are usually sharing a chair at mealtime, etc, so we're making sure he has lots of one-on-one dates with Ash so they get their time together. Micah is a real sweetheart. He has really stepped up as the big brother when Eliza is at school all day--he involves Sarah in everything he does and is always trying to make her laugh. He gave his first talk in Primary recently and spoke clearly and loudly into the microphone and just seemed so grown up. He is taking a tumbling class with a couple neighborhood friends and really loves to do flips on the trampoline as well.

What is wrong with this picture? My sweet husband thought Micah was turning 5 instead of 4. He said, "You're going to put this on the blog, aren't you?" But he did draw the cool dinosaur. Eliza drew the little car at the bottom of the cake. Micah wanted the nasty strawberry frosting, and it was his big day.

Frosting facial hair, a yearly tradition.

He is loving anything remote control these days.

We only do a friend party every other year, and he wanted to go bowling on his birthday, so that's what we did. Eliza had play practice that evening, so we had our party at home the night before.

Sarah's favorite parts about Micah's birthday were: devouring the Junior Mints she had picked out for him (he let her) and putting her face over the air vent on the bowling ball rack. She loved bowling, it was pretty funny.

Jeremy Swanlund screwed up his kid's name on his facebook announcement to everyone. Which doesn't make Ashley any less dumb, it just means he's less dumb than Jeremy Frickin Swanlund.

ok Ashley, should I call you grandma Dutey? Great job on the cake anyway! The pictures are so cute. It looks like Micah had a lot of fun for his 4th birthday. Wish I could have been there to go bowling with him. Love you all!

i can't believe how big he's gotten. when Shelby & him were in nursery together, i subbed a couple times or I'd be in there cuz Shelby wouldn't let me leave. he was the sweetest kid in there. He would always get a toy & come sit by me & play.

Happy Birthday Micah! Ash shouldn't feel too bad, I could totally see Ben doing the same thing. Just don't tell him that.

I must retract my earlier statement. Messing up your kid's birthday is a much larger gaffe than messing up a kid's name whom you've only known for 12 hours. Sorry Jeremy.
