Oregon

We visited my folks in Oregon a couple weeks ago. Lots of sand, s'mores, hiking, kayaking, shell-searching, eating, sleeping. And dainty Sarah finally enjoyed the beach.

I love the morning fog there. As you can see, we brought Frodo and I'm glad. The kids were worried about leaving him, and he had a good time at the beach with my mom's dog.

Aunt Monica.

4th of July with Uncle Rog.

My cousin Lucero and Ryan were up from Irvine for the holiday too; it was great to be together.

This is serious progress for Sarah. She's so dainty; she kept asking to wash her hands on the beach and kept rearranging her towel. It was adorable.

Lots of story time with Nina.

Haystack Rock in Cannon Beach. The tide pools here are great.

We had to get there pretty early for low tide.

Some good friends of ours joined us for the last 3 days of the trip, and it was fun to show them around. We sent messages in bottles out into the ocean. Except for Micah, who cried because he knew his wouldn't float directly to his friend Chase's house. So we delivered that one in person after the trip.

Tent sleepovers in the backyard.

This place was really tasty.

We went out on some docks and this sea lion was not happy about us being there. He snarled and got up in this position right away.

The kids' impressions of the sea lion.

Eliza always gets sick the last two days of vacation. Always, poor kid. She can never stay up late or eat junk food or her body just has a conniption. But aside from that, she and the rest of us had a great time. It's always good to go home. Thanks, Nina and Papa, and aunt Monica for sharing your room. :)

Super fun! We really need to go up there with you guys. It looks beautiful! I'd love to see low tide and all that jazz (except for the early morning thing). :-) I'm glad Sarah could enjoy the beach a little more this time. I like the message in a bottle idea...so fun! I'm glad you guys had a lot of fun and made it home safe.

Great update! The Elizaisms on the side are hilarious too--a boyfriend to do the dishes? Too funny!

What an adventurous family you are! Getting up early for the low tide looks like it was worth it. And the pictures of your mom reading to the kids is priceless. What a gem to treasure!

That looks like such a fun trip. After looking at your pictures it's made me want to go back to Oregon. We use to go as a family when I was little. We did the tide pools and the sea lions and I remember the morning fog... every morning. I'm so glad you guys had fun!

I'm glad you had so much fun! I'd love to come see the tide pools there at the beach. We have a lake, but no tide pools. I'm with Sarah about beaches, though!
