So my friend Natalie inspired me by posting a great passage about children on her blog. It was written by Kahlil Gibran, and it comes from his book, "The Prophet." So I thought I would post one of my favorite quotations about children, and, I think, about parenting.
"Many things we need can wait. The child cannot. Now is the time his bones are being formed, his blood is being made, his mind is being developed. To him we cannot say tomorrow. His name is today." -- Chilean poet Gabriela Mistral
This always sustains me when I'm tired and I feel like slacking off on my parenting. All too soon my kids will be in school and my time with them will be more limited and filled with miscellaneous things. If any of you have parenting quotes that sustain you, send them my way!

I love that! Thanks for the reminder! Too often I feel like cleaning or scrapbooking or other chores are more important or urgent than spending quality time with my boys. I constantly have to remind myself that these are special times that I have with them, and that I will never be able to turn the clock back. So thank you for sharing that. One quote that I love is, "The love of a child makes you change and become all that they will aspire to. The blessing of a child makes you appreciate life and hold onto those little hands that God has given to you." -Lisa Billings
I really needed to hear that, thanks! One of my favorites is, mothers hold their childrens hands for a while, but their hearts forever. Remember the movie Hook? Well on there the mom says something to the effect about how this is the time when our children want us around, we should take advantage of it, because pretty soon it will be us asking for them to spend more time at home.
Your always so good at giving us the reminders we need to help put things in perspective. I was just reading the First Presidencies Message in the Ensign and President Monson gives us 3 ways of attaining the treasures of eternal value and one is to "Live in the Present." I feel like I, too, try to do the cleaning and cooking and scrapbooking at all the wrong times, when really what I should be doing is enjoying the moments with my child before he grows up. So he says that "everyday in your life is a special occasion...Each day, each hour, each minute is special." Also it is stated "You pile up enough tomorrows, and you'll find you've collected a lot of empty yesterdays." I don't want to look back in ten years and think if only I cherished my time with my children more. It inspired me to live each day to the fullest. Read it- its a great message!! I think I will cook my next dinner at candlelight on our China we have never used just for fun!!!:) I know these don't pertain exactly to children, but I enjoyed them!
I love the quote and your comments. I've thought about that a lot lately. I liked your comment on our blog about how fast we caught up to your family. Kind of funny, huh? I like to tease a few of my friends that are about to have their 3rd that it's about time they caught up to us.:)
What an incredibly beautiful reminder of what is really important. Being pregnant with #2 I have really cherished some great moments alone with Ruby, and even though she won't remember them specifically, hopefully they're creating a foundation for our future relationship. Send me your current email address so we can chat somewhere other than in the comments section! emilybybee@gmail.com
Thanks, its good to hear things like that often. Your not a tag loser, I only do a few of the ones I am tagged on.
Goosebumps. Wow. That is so great. I love it because it is so true. You've inspired me to take more time out for my kids TODAY and less time out for my non-essentials. These young days really will be over before we know it.
Great post!
That is a beautiful quote. I love it. It's a lot like the quote shared in General conference about just enjoying the moment with your kids (I forget who said it). Nice thought.
